Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs)

« Back to Glossary Index

Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), also known as simulated neural networks (SNNs) are computing systems vaguely inspired by the biological neural networks of animal and human brains. They are a key technology in deep learning and AI, capable of learning and making intelligent decisions on their own. ANNs are comprised of node layers, containing an input layer, one or more hidden layers, and an output layer. Each node, or artificial neuron, connects to another and has a weight and threshold. ANNs are used for a variety of tasks, including speech recognition, image analysis, and predictive modeling.
